"Hinamatsuri"
is a ceremony for families with daughters on March 3 by
displaying Hina dolls on a stepped shelf to express the
wish for their daughter's good health and growth. The dolls
are dressed in beautiful kimono modeled after those worn
by women in the ancient Heian court (a long long time ago!)
Hina
(Empress) and Dairi (Emperor) sit on the top shelf. Sannin-kanjo
(Three ladies of the court) sit next shelf, and followed
by Gonin-bayashi (Five court musicians), Zuishin (Escorts)
and Eji (Guards).
Diamond-shaped
rice cakes, sweets and white sake are also displayed. (The
rice cakes are looks like this. Usually Hina & Dairi
are not sitting on it though. They are very good!!)
